Not long ago I did a section of the PCT using this app. I had no previous experience with navigation, not even at the Park;) but it was easy to learn and use. Not to exaggerate but It worked better than the $800 Garmin my friends were using Ice and snow made it extremely difficult to navigate; many trails were lost while the melting ice created new miss leading trails erasing the marked trails. I had no problem getting in and out of the woods even at locations were no phone service was available. (download map areas first to get accurate readings where no service areas) We encountered one lost hiker that my team and I end up helping by guiding him and teaching him how to use this app. He got out alive;) All I can say is that it really works Don’t break your head
  • Broke Imports in IOS 11

This app no longer imports of gpx files from other apps via email or airdrop, making the app pretty lame. Probably adding bugs to drive users into subscriptions...
  • Super useful and reliable

I backpack frequently in the Gila, and downloaded this app for that purpose. I have been amazed at how useful it has been across the country and in foreign lands -- it served me well in the Dominican Republic, Spain, and Ireland. I have gotten many times the $10 I paid for it in value.

It says that it work good with my iPhone and Apple Watch but I doesn't. The app lags and sometime it just crashes. I want my refund!!! Not good for what I paid for.

Like another reviewer, this app isn't for everyone - you need some sense when using it.
  • Just what I was looking for

If you want to reference old Topo maps and even hike or drive with your GPS showing you where you are on the old maps - this is the app for you. Developers: Please code in some different waypoint icons. I'd love to mark different colors or icons like on google maps. The red pinpoint can get redundant with a lot of waypoints. Thank you!

I've been seeing this app get unjustly downvoted because certain users are plainly ignorant of what this is for. OTM will not hold your hand. This is not an app for an amateur city person on a weekend stroll, someone who needs 24/7 mobile data. I know it's hard for some people to believe, but your phone is not God, and doesn't work everywhere. For the skilled adventurer in remote locations, however, this are as good as it gets. There are a wide variety of maps, and more if you upgrade to Gaia GPS. They download easily, but yes, can be HUGE, so use dsl/cable. Once you've downloaded the areas at the resolution you've selected, OTM comes VERY much in handy. The map maker could improve things by making the interface clearer, and making the maps on device a bit easier to negotiate. Also, this app used to have Mapquest roadmaps; when Mapquest recently ended their 3rd party service, this was quietly eliminated. Current roadmap options don't cut it. I feel for the devs in this issue. But some heads up for when map servers are cut would be nice, as would a roadmap which has some decent terrain relief and clarity. Look, kids, for the price, this can't be beat. No subscription nonsense, no clutter, no bloated fees for map packs like other apps... just lots and lots and LOTS of topo maps for jaunts to just about anywhere. That's the deal.
