Strava does the most basic functions of workout tracker fairly well. Interface is easy to use and I really enjoy the popular segment feature. There are however some pretty normal features Strava does not support or incorporate. For example: Most of my workouts I’m not so much concerned about my mile pace as just seeing my total workout and total time spent running. However, Strava even after turning the autopause feature off does server side autopause no matter what unless you also mark a workout as a race. Why? Turning autopause off should be enough to not give me any autopauses. Another biggie is adding manual workouts. Too often especially in the winter in sub 30° weather my phone dies so I need to go in and add a manual workout afterwards. However, Strava does not support mapped manual workouts. You can only add total distance and time worked out into a manual workout. Why? If I knew my distances without a tracking app I wouldn’t use a tracking app. A simple map tool to add the route I ran and calculating the distance for me seems pretty basic. I deleted Strava after their most recent update completely bricked the app for iOS 11.2.5 users and it’s been 4 days since that and their has been no new update to fix the issue. That’s unacceptable for an app that most of us use daily. Way too many other run trackers out there for me to wait a week for Strava to get the app unbricked.

  • Apple Watch app

The app for the Apple Watch has many problems. (1) if you start a run and immediately want to stop it, you cannot. The app must detect significant motion motion which makes it not worth using. (2) I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it to deal with the previous issue. My watch told me that i need to login to my account on my phone for it to work, but when I went on my phone app I was logged in and it said my watch was set up. (3) it often does not account for parts of my runs and gets the time - and therefore pace - super inaccurate. For example, I will run 2.5 at about 7 min pace in reality and it will record that I actually ran 4 min avg pace and my first mile took a minute which which is obviously just wrong. I really would like to use this platform but the watch app is just so disfunctional that I would not recommend it and will switch myself if these problems are not dealt with soon.

Previous versions have been great, but the latest release crashes before the home screen ever appears.

Latest update destroyed the app, won't even start anymore on my iPhone 7+. I open it, it gives me the orange start screen then immediately closes out. Ugh.
  • Was a great ap

I loved this ap during the summer and fall of 2017 but somewhere in one of the updates this winter it got buggy and failed on me for three activities in a row. I tried contacting customer service as I had identified that the issue is that the ap won’t connect to location services when the phone is locked and in my pocket but I got several canned ‘troubleshooting responses’ of stuff that I had already tried. I’ve even deleted and re-installed with no luck. I’m reluctant to keep trying to track with this at the moment. Especially as it sounds like it’s only occurring with Apple architecture. I have a feeling it may be a problem on apples end as the current OS is super buggy but I think Strava developers should be working on fixing the issue and need to improve their customer service responses.

I’ve been using this app for over a year and like it however, the latest version starts to load then crashes every time. Fail.
