No glitches and very user-friendly. I haven't taken a French course in about 10 years and this is been a great way for me to brush up and learn more.
  • I've learned a lot of Spanish!

This app is very good at introducing English-speaking users to another language. Whether you're very new to the language, or already partially fluent, Duolingo makes it relatively easy to learn. This was my experience learning Spanish. The only area where I think there are occasional problems, is with the pronunciation. Users are sometimes prompted to speak a phrase or sentence in Spanish (or another foreign language). Unfortunately I've found that my iPhone's microphone doesn't consistently communicate what I'm speaking to the app. In these situations, I get an error message that tells me that what I said doesn't sound quite right. There's no explanation as to what part of the sentence I mispronounced or how. For these situations, I can only try to pronounce each word correctly, and hope the app recognizes what I'm saying. I can't be certain what exactly causes the error, although it seems the amount of background noise increases the chances of the error occurring. However I should clarify that this issue is relatively minor, and although I'd like to see this functionality improved, it still doesn't detract from my 5-star rating of the app.
  • Very effective so far

I'm using this to supplement a paid subscription to Rosetta Stone, and so far Duolingo is winning. RS expects the student to learn variations between verbs, pronouns etc on words that are newly introduced whose meaning is not yet clear, and can be very confusing at times. DL thus far does a better, cleaner job of introduction and clarification. I wish I had tried this first.
  • Verbal lesson needs work.

I've enjoyed this app to refresh my language skills. Unfortunately, the verbal translations that we're required to record do not work for me. I will translate word for word the "correct" translation, just like the solution says, and it still says I'm wrong and takes away my health. I say get rid of this feature or fix it. I'm a midwestern female and have noticed not all voice command options pick up on my voice.
  • I love it!

This is a great way to learn the basics of a new language fast. While it can be hard to figure the finer point of grammer(like with words like it and such) it shapes it self according to what you have troubles on and what you are good at! It's great!
  • I absolutely love this app

  • I miss having lingots 😭

I'm ok with the health system, since I use the practice function a lot anyway. I just wish we had lingots instead of gems, since lingots are practically associated with Duolingo anyway, and are less generic-sounding than gems. So just, my thought.
